The life and times of Lois Worth Woodruff, a professional hunter in East Africa during the first half of the last century. Go hunting with Woodruff on the plains and in the forests of Kenya, Uganda and Tanganyika and meet some of his trackers, gun-bearers and clients. This is a simple story, simply told, but that in itself is what makes its adventures and escapades into dreams.

It was well worth the time to read it. I did find, however, that the author had misunderstood some of the tape recordings made by the man who experienced the life. She obviously does not understand rifles and ballistics very well as she continued to express bullet velocity in Ft. Lbs rather than Ft per second. The prediction at the end that Kenya would be the only African Country with suitable populations of huntable animals while other countries would be left with few or no animals has turned out to be totally wrong. Kenya, since closing off all hunting, has lost most of their animals to poaching and mismanagement while most other countries are doing quite well.Product details

Two Buffaloes The Life and Times of a Professional Hunter eBook Vivian James Reviews
The book is made up of what are really short stories that have become chapters - it is like sitting next to an old guy and listening to his stories - interesting but a little disjointed
Very interesting read, not just about hunting but also some of the history of Africa.
This is a good African hunting novel but in my opinion is spoiled by far too much emotional, introspective, naval gazing by the author. Vivian must be a woman surely?
Having hunted in Africa for ten years, "Two Buffaloes" took me back. Well written. Descriptions of flora and fauna, hunting techniques, all the excitement and drama of the African Safari. Great Read! You cannot be anti-gun to enjoy this read.
I read the book in its entirety and felt like I got fmy money's worth but it's not destined for greatness. Starts out slowly with a lot of early life history information before getting down to what I as a reader paid to read - the adventure of hunting in Africa.
This is a well told memoir of a professional hunter in the east African continent, an area now closed to hunting -- legally, that is. As a big game hunter myself, I naturally gravitate towards books of this nature. I learned a few things, details of fauna and flora, tribal customs, and conditions that no longer apply. But, the adventures and experiences are priceless. This is a good read for the hunter and the wannabe.

It was not very well written. All the author did was to transcribe some tapes the hunter made some 25 years ago.It was lacking much description. Here again maps and illustrations would have been helpful. It did have some interesting stories from the days of African safaris when it was a popular activity. It did give some insight into what a professional hunter was required to do and how to handle a client, some of which were real a--holes.
