Is this really a first publication for this author? Because this story is well crafted, tightly written, well edited and more highly polished than anything else I've read recently.Written as a first-person narrator recounting experiences from decades past, this is a story of love, passion (in the sense of strong emotion, not eroticism), and revenge. I would call it a "quick read" (I read it on my lunch hour) but it is by no means a "lite" story. The characters are vivid and well developed, and the scene is easy to picture.
I highly recommend this story and will definitely look forward to future works from Ms. Young-Buck.

I don't often find short stories this well-written. The story is riveting, vivid, with well-developed believable characters and just enough pause here and there to give you a chance to take a breath. And it is precisely as long as it needs to be no more, no less; a feat that many better-known authors have yet to master.
I have been reading manuscripts by this author for years, but this is a haunting new style for her.
The voice of the narrator really comes through, as does the picture of the small town he lives in. This is a great story for the Halloween season.
