I swear, I know I say this with every new installment of this series; but this is my new favorite!Let me give you a bit of back-story... I was first introduced to Toni Aleo's books back in April of this year with TANGLED IN THE LACES (Seduced by the Game anthology). As you all know, this is where we "meet" Karson & Lacey (and where I fell in love with them). Since then, I have read every Assassins' book she has written.
Oh, the FEELS!!! They slayed me! To read about Karson & Lacey meeting, and ultimately falling in love; only to be devastated at the way the novella ended. I needed, no; I CRAVED more! And then to have to wait 7 months (which felt like MUCH longer), to see if it worked out... Needless to say that I was on pins & needles waiting for this book, lol. (I even bought the series on a different device because I didn't want to wait overnight for the other format to go live.) Which brings us to LACES AND LACE...
Fast forward NINE LONG YEARS from the end of TANGLED IN THE LACES, and Karson is still miserable. I mean, he has a great career, great friends, and a team that he loves; but he still missed Lacey.
Lacey has made some changes, herself, over this time. She finally got to do what she always talked about in TANGLED, has the love of her family; and yet still misses Karson.
So here they are, after all this time, still missing each other. Well, it just so happens that they end up in the same city; at the same time, and run into each other in the last place you would ever suspect. And, OH. MY. GOD. Do the sparks ever still fly! Whew, I had to stop reading for a minute to collect myself! Again with the FEELS! It seems as if no time had passed at all...
From there, it was a roller-coaster ride of emotion that I never wanted to end. Joy; heartbreak; elation; anger, and one impulsive decision that will make you cheer... you name it & this book will make you feel it. (And that's only the first half of the book)
Then reality sets in... The same issue from the end of TANGLED comes back with a vengeance.
How long are you willing to fight for Love, when it seems as if everything is trying to tear it apart? Would you be willing to give everything that you know up for it? Is it worth it when it feels like you are alone, with no friends or family? Especially when you think that "THE ONE" is trying to drive a wedge between you & those you hold dear? Even if he makes you the happiest that you have been in the last decade?
Read along as Karson & Lacey's story takes you through all the ups and downs that a relationship could possibly go through. Epic highs; the deepest lows; the ultimate betrayal & the biggest redemption are all within these pages, and it is DEFINITELY the best book to date.

Let my first say that this book absolutely tore my heart to shreds and I'm cursing Toni because I ugly cried through most of it. HOWEVER I loved it and some characters lives are not all flowers and roses and not every book can make you smile the entire time.
Lacey is amazing. Not only is she a Breast Cancer Survivor but she actually wants to better the lives of women in all shapes and sizes and forms. Everytime I read about her lingerie and her company I kept picturing women from The Scar Project and how important this concept of making all women feel sexy no matter what is. Lacey has all this and her family but the hole in her heart Karson left 9 years ago has never been filled.
Karson has almost everything going for him. His hockey career is hot yet the women he left behind has never strayed far from his mind. He's back in Chicago and knows he hates coming her because it's where Lacey is and what he did haunts him so much he feels likes he's cursed anytime he comes to town to play.
A chance meeting fighting over a taxi jumpstarts the relationship that never really ended for either of them and both Lacey and Karson realize that they have been given an extreme gift to be able to not only find each other again but know that the love they shared is still alive and burning hot.
I read a few other reviews where people had a hard time understand why Lacey had such a hard time letting go of her family even though they were nasty and hurtful people, and even a few that didn't understand why Lacey would let them break her down and make her so insecure about herself. I really understand where she was coming from on all of those aspects because of my own family issues. I lost my dad and while I wasn't nearly as young as when Lacey lost her mother it is hard and you cling to your family after that type of trauma. Yes she had Karson but your family should always be there for you and care for you, and you should be able to believe them.
This book made me see that no one's family is perfect. They may be slightly crazy and annoying like Karson's or absolutely bat s*** insane like Lacey's but they will do anything they believe will keep their own safe and protected even if it does mean hurting those they love.
I love this series and the Bellevue Bullies Hockey Series and each book continues to grab me in new ways.
